Amsterdam (Re-post from Journals)

We’re finally taking the ferry across the English Channel to Calais, France. (Which took a little an hour.)The tour manager, Kristy seems pretty cool and the driver Craig was funny. I finally meet Samantha and her bf- they seem pretty cool. Once we got back on the tour bus, we did a little speed dating game for about 45 mins to break the ice. I thought it was cool, you get to learn their names and what they look forward too on this trip but I was so tired of asking questions and talking about myself after the third person. ( I guess, speed dating is not for me.) I admit it was quite interesting learning about people, their daily life and interests. After we filled out our optional excursions form for the tour, I wasn't planning to do much of it before the trip b/c it was pretty pricey, but at the end I decided to do almost everything except for 2. =) I'm here anyways-mind as well.

We didn't get to the hotel till 7pm, instead of 4am. =( Traffic was pretty bad due to a tragic accident. After a quick dinner buffet, we headed over for a night canal cruise that's when I learned that Kristy went to China backpacking for a month w/ her friends. I thought that was pretty neat but not something I plan to do. When the Canal cruise was over, we head into the Red Light Districts to watch a Dutch Culture Show. I agree that Amsterdam wouldn't be nearly as popular as the other European cities, if Marijuana and prostitution weren't legalized. Oh man, I felt bad for the girl- you can tell they are not happy. Who would be? I thought the Culture show was a bit boring, but Contiki made it fun to watch especially when they sent the volunteers from our tour on stage. (Ok. Guys! I promise, what happen on stage or in Amsterdam stays there. Ha-ha.) The show turned out funny and luckily we didn't have to stay there to long. Off to Grasshopper, I wanted to smoke or at least try the space cake, but not by myself or w/ people I didn't know or around Wendy, who didn't want to try it at all. Grasshopper closes their bars at 1am; I was surprise that it was so early-maybe b/c it was a weekday. So we decided to head back to the hotel, since it wasn't safe to stay there. One of the tour mate got rob, even though it was only $15- I'm just glad he didn't get hurt.

After our breakfast buffet, we had only 4 hours to do whatever we want before leaving Amsterdam. We checked out Anne Frank Museum, it took me back when I was in Junior High reading her dairy. Can't believe they stayed in such a small space for 2 years, while hiding from the Nazi. It was really moving, too bad we are not allow to take pictures but I did brought some postcards. After I wanted to check out the Heineken Factory, but Wendy kept whining that we don't have enough time. I thought 2 hours is more than enough. We did a little shopping and Wendy was getting on my nerves for taking so long at each shop. So I told her we meet back in 40 mins- that way I get some time by myself. I brought a few things and tried fries w/ mayo and a hint of hot sauce. =) It was good. There is definitely no place like Amsterdam; I really wish my friends and sis was here- it would be fun and silly.
